Improving my site

A couple of years ago I managed to start up my own business. I had been working for different employers for many years and I was pretty sick and tired of using my well developed skills to earn other people money when I knew that I would be able to make the money myself off my own back.

It took me a year or two to really get my business going because I had to build up my client base. I was an accountant and there were clauses from my previous job meaning that none of my old clients would be allowed to move over to my company for a year because it would be viewed as me poaching them. In the first year I picked up one of two new clients but I was ready for a difficult year. I had assurances from six or seven clients that they would definitely switch back to me when the year long clause was over.

I spent the first year really establishing the business in all of the ways that I could. I got the name out there with adverts on local radio and in the papers and I built my website and had a company called SEOP.com do some optimisation work on my site to make sure that I was ranking well for my specific search terms, which of course were specific to my industry and location. By the time a year had passed, I had a few clients, fourteen more waiting to come on board with me and the other six or seven from my old employer had all been on the phone to arrange meetings.

My own business was thriving and I was getting a huge amount of traffic through my website. I was just so glad that I had taken the leap.
