Over the past few years there has been a plethora of different social media tools that have come to the market. In terms of online marketing, Forums and blogs initially became the stamping ground of people trying to make their voices heard. Myspace and Facebook quickly followed, and now Twitter seems to be leading the way. What is different about twitter? It is a social media site which deals with the here and now. It is up to the minute, with instant ‘Tweets’, flying across the internet so that people can interact as they would if they were talking to you over the phone. The advantage of this is of course immediacy and a greater sense of realism. The downside is whatever you have to say can go as quickly as it came if it is not pertinent. Anything of value on Twitter will get re tweeted by sometimes thousands of twitterers, but you need to know how to maximise the program to do well from it.
